Summer Housing Boost

Summer Housing Boost can help cover the cost of living on campus during the summer session(s) that students are enrolled at least half-time.

To be eligible for Summer Housing Boost students must be:

  • An undergraduate degree seeking student at UW–Madison
  • Enrolled in at least half-time for the session in which you receive the Housing Boost (example: enrolled in at least 3 credits during the 8-week session)
  • Be eligible to reside in University Housing

Program requirements

Application opens February 12, 2024.

Apply for Summer Housing Boost by Sunday, April 7 at midnight.

Applications will be due April 7, 2024 at midnight.

Apply for the Summer Housing Boost

  • Students must be enrolled in their summer courses by midnight on Sunday, April 7, 2024 to be considered for Summer Housing Boost.
  • Students will be notified of their Summer Housing Boost application status by April 11, 2024.
  • Students should wait to apply for Summer Term housing through University Housing until after they receive information about their Summer Housing Boost award.

I want to enroll in several back-to-back summer sessions. Will I receive housing for the whole time I'm taking courses?

As long as you are enrolled half-time for each session, you are eligible to receive the Summer Housing Boost for the entire period.

I want to live on campus even if I do not receive Summer Housing Boost. Should I apply to both?

If you are planning on living in University Housing for summer 2024 regardless of your Summer Housing Boost award please wait until after you are notified of your Summer Housing Boost application status to apply for a University Housing Summer Term contract. Students will be notified of their Summer Housing Boost award by April 11th.

I’m living in a University Housing Residence Hall for spring 2024 and want to take a course that begins the 4-week session that starts May 20, 2024. Will Summer Housing Boost cover the cost of housing for the week between spring and summer classes?

If you are currently living in University Housing and you’re selected for Summer Housing Boost for the early 4-week session in May, you would be eligible for Boost to cover the cost of interim housing. On your Boost application you can indicate that you would like your summer Housing contract to begin on May 11th. Please note that students that are approved for interim housing will need to move from their spring room to their summer assignment on Wednesday, May 15th.

I'm an international student. Am I eligible for this program?

Yes, international students may apply for Summer Housing Boost.

What type of room will program participants live in?

Summer Housing Boost receipients will live in triple rooms in Smith Hall. You can learn more about the rooms on University Housing’s summer housing on their website here.

If you require an alternate room type to accommodate a disability, please contact the McBurney Disability Resource Center. The Summer Housing Boost program will work to provide alternative room options for students with a McBurney accommodation, based on University Housing availability.

I want to live in University Housing beyond the dates where I will be taking summer courses. Will the Summer Housing Boost cover my costs?

The Summer Housing Boost will only cover your housing costs while you are enrolled at least half-time in summer courses. You can work with University Housing to extend your summer contract and live in the residence halls for an additional period, but you will be responsible for the costs associated with that additional time.

Can I request a specific summer roommate if I receive the Summer Housing Boost?

If you are accepted into the program, there is an option to submit a request for a specific roommate. We cannot guarantee that such requests will be granted, but we will seek to accommodate them where possible.

I am also applying for the University Housing employee discounted housing. Would I also be eligible for the Summer Housing Boost?

No. Students are not eligible for both University Housing employee discounted summer housing and Summer Housing Boost.

What will happen to my University Housing contract if I change my summer enrollment and am no longer eligible for Summer Housing Boost?

If you are no longer eligible for Summer Housing Boost you will still be responsible for the terms of your University Housing contract.
