Welcome to UW–Madison Summer Term!

Summer Term 2018 is here, and it’s off to a great start. Here are four things to look forward to over the next few months.

Starting summer early

This year, Summer Term has a new four-week session that begins May 21. Students are taking advantage of this session to complete courses before starting internships, jobs, and summer travels.

Attending memorable campus events

Summer is filled with exciting events on campus, many of which are free. Don’t miss the Summer Term ice cream social on July 11 at noon; you’ll receive an email with more information soon. Also mark your calendar for the Summer Term lecture series at the Gordon Dining and Events Center, which includes talks on design thinking (June 19), a public health perspective on creating safe environments for children (July 17), and defining happiness (August 21). Wisconsin Union Directorate’s Terrace After Dark programming, which includes outdoor concerts at the Memorial Union each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, begins June 1. You can also find film screenings on the Terrace on Mondays beginning May 28 and Sundays beginning June 10.

Exploring Madison

There are lots of fun summer events off campus, too. Find Bucky Badger all over town at Bucky on Parade, a free public art event that runs from May through early September. Looking for a fireworks display? Head to Shake the Lake on Lake Monona June 23. Or check out the Madison Night Market on June 14 and August 9. This new event includes live music, food carts and pop-up restaurants, and vendors selling art and handmade gifts.

Enjoying campus classics

Summer is many students’ favorite season to enjoy the UW–Madison campus. Study in the sunshine on Bascom Hill, then sail Lake Mendota with Hoofers. Enjoy a concert on the Memorial Union Terrace. Toast marshmallows at Picnic Point, or try a new flavor of Babcock ice cream. It’s time to make some memories!
