What if big buckets of Babcock Hall ice cream appeared on the Memorial Union Terrace one summer’s day? And what if the scoops were free?
No, you’re not dreaming. The second annual Summer Term ice cream social takes place on Wednesday, July 11, from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the Terrace. It’s a free event for University of Wisconsin–Madison faculty, staff, and students, including online students and student employees. Bucky Badger will lend star power to the occasion, and the soundtrack comes courtesy of the UW Marching Band. Flavors include Badger Blast, cookies and cream, strawberry, and vanilla.
Coupons for lactose-free ice cream will be available, redeemable at Memorial Union or Union South. And in case of rain, the event moves up Bascom Hill to Birge Hall.
The ice cream social confirms that, during summer at UW–Madison, life is sweet.
“We want to acknowledge all the faculty, staff, and students who are working hard, doing research, and teaching and taking courses on campus this summer,” says Aphra Mednick, interim director of Summer Term. “The ice cream social is an opportunity to take a break and celebrate all the great work that happens in the summer.”
At last year’s inaugural ice cream social, a huge crowd showed up to pick favorite flavors and marvel over Madison’s summertime charm. See photos below, and mark your calendar for the 2018 ice cream social on July 11. The sheer volume of frozen treats guarantees a chill event.
